Diane Fleeks, in her first comedic role, leaves no doubts in her ability to solicit laughter as the slightly sardonic Jessie. Rachel Blackwell is perfectly cast as Celia, a role that lets her showcase her talents as a stand-up comic as well as burlesque performer.

As Cora, Stefanie Cramer brings out the somewhat eclectic nature of her character quite nicely as well as having a talented singing voice. By Valentine shines as Chris, the leader of the troupe, a force to be reckoned with in terms of stage energy and overall performance. Some of the best moments are between her and Morrow, their characters being the type of best friends that we all would like to have in our lives.

A bit slow at first in the opening, it picks up pace and goes full throttle toward the end of act one when the calendar shoot takes place, the scenes that solicited the strongest audience response. Those scenes, which also featured a highly flustered photographer played quite amusingly by Brian Woster, are lightning quick with dialogue and movement and nonstop laughter.

Still, though, it leaves you captivated until the end, even if you have seen the movie which I had not just to see how it all plays out. The set design is pretty simplistic, largely wide open to allow for movement of the characters and not creating for any type of distraction.

Kudos to Michael Shaeffer for his song selection as music designer, a great repertoire of songs that go along nicely with the plot on stage. Reason being is that one of the challenges local theater is facing is a jude number of male performers coming out to auditions.

Hopefully, we will see more local men roll the dice and try their hand at local community theater.
